Chery is one of the fastest growing independent auto manufacturers in China. In 2007, Chery plans to bring several different models to popular niche categories. There will be an entry level compact, a mid-size sedan, a luxury coupe, an SUV and a Crossover. All Chery vehicles are planned to cost 30% less than competing vehicles from other companies. Additionally, Chery plans on using environment-friendly hybrid and fuel cell technologies in the near future. Chery received its ISO/9001 certification in 2001 and its ISO/TS16949 certification in 2002.
Chery Engine design is taken care of by AVL, an Austrian engine design firm. AVL has been commissioned to develop four new engines that will deliver excellent performance while simultaneously meeting the latest North American emission standards. Engines will include turbo 4-cylinders, V6s and V8s as well as turbo diesels. Some of these engines will feature Direct Gas Injection, a feature that increases power and reduces fuel consumption.
Chery Exterior design is left to the Italian design firms of Bertone and Pininfarina, who have well-earned reputations with Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo (Bertone) and Ferrari (Pininfarina). This will bring sophisticated European styling to Chery automobiles.
Chery has been picked by the Chinese government to export the first major line of Chinese automobiles to North America. "World Class Vehicles With Extremely Competitive Prices". How are their prices so low? An inexpensive, smart and capable labor force and the absense of decades of pension requirements and exorbitant health care costs.
